NLIS is Australia's mandatory system for the identification and tracing of all sheep, lambs, farmed goats and cattle. The system was using visually readable ear tags printed with your Property Identification Code (PIC) and the NLIS logo. This system remains valid only until 31 December 2024.
Allowable NOW, and mandatory from 01 January 2025, all animals must have an NLIS approved EID device.
The animal may ALSO have an additional visual or management tag. All NLIS devices must stay with the animal for life.
It is unlawful to move animals that are not properly identified with an approved NLIS device from any property.
